Planting A Tree

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

MattaciaThe Mount Franklin bottled water in the vending machine at work has a promotion running at the moment in partnership with Landcare Australia.

Landcare Australia is aiming to plant 250,000 trees. So what do you have to do? Well, everytime you buy a bottle of Mount Franklin water, Landcare Australia will plant an extra tree on your behalf in areas in need of revegetation.

I have a Mattacia tree, according to the website. All you need is the barcode from your bottle of water and there you go. Why not?

The Brand New Hummer

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

My boss got her new car yesterday, she even took the day off work, just to go get it and then spend the day playing in it.

It’s not just any new car though, it is a brand new Hummer, you know the one, from the big advertising billboards around that have the front grill shown with the words “The all new Hummer - Now get lost!”

Again though, it’s not just any Hummer, it is a bright orange Hummer with just about every add on you can think of, except for armoured plating and bullet proof glass. I have no idea why she needs it all, or for that matter, why she even needs a car as big as a Hummer, but thats what she now has.

It is a very nice car, I won’t deny that, and apparently it’s like driving a Chevvy, not that I will ever get to drive it, nor do I really want to, but hey.

So there you go. I’ll get a photo of it at some stage. It’s getting custom side steps put on it on Monday as well as an undercarriage protector, so maybe I will get some after that.

Delicious Fruit Drink

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

The past few nights I have felt like a fruit drink of some description that was not just your normal fruit juice.

So tonight, I decided to put things in a blender and see what happened.

First off, theres the ice, put in whatever looks reasonable, I used 6 cubes for what turned out to be about 750ml all up.

Crush up the ice, then add frozen strawberries, again, whatever looks good. I put about a handfull and a half in.

Then add some fruit salad. I just have your generic white label Home Brand stuff that costs $1 for 750ml of fruit salad. I figure its got around about the same amount of stuff in it as the more expensive ones (according to the ingredients percentage anyway), and it looks and tastes the same, so why not. I put in about half the tin. Then you blend them all up with the strawberries and ice.

Finally, add lemonade to your hearts content. Again, I just used the white label stuff, tastes exactly the same as anything else and again is only $1.

I have to suggest letting it sit for a minute or so before blending the lemonade in, mine tried to explode the first time. I basically just topped it all up with lemonade. It tasted great, though I couldn’t fit it all in my cup, they are only 500ml, so I ended up with a cup and a half of delicious fruity juice.

I think I am going to have to get me a giant cup.

I will definitely be making this again, it’s nice and cool and refreshing, plus I have half a tin of fruit salad to use for something.

So that’s it, no ice cream, no yoghurt, just fruit, the fruit juice that was in the tin, and lemonade. I’m sure it could be a bit healthier if you didn’t use lemonade, such as mineral water or even just plain water, or fruit juice, or a combination of fruit juice and mineral water. The lemonade adds a nice tang to it though, for lack of a better description, and I really quite like it.

Adding apple could work well as a bit more of a filler as it would also add lots of it’s own juice as well as apple pulp.

I will be experimenting with this more in the future. I think using Red Bull instead of lemonade holds some potential as well.

New Background

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

This wouldn’t show up in the RSS feed, but if you have looked at the site in the past 10 hours or so, you would have noticed that there is now a fractal background in each post page.

It is based on one of my fractal wallpapers. This is something I have been contemplating doing for a while, to add a bit more to the page. It is a little large, approximately 440k, since the entire image is a semi-transparent png. I’m thinking about changing it to a jpg and giving it a fixed background colour so that it’s not so big, though I do prefer the semi-transparent png, but you get that.

50 Reasons to Switch

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

I just came across an article by Chris Pirillo entitled “50 Reasons to Switch from Microsoft Windows to Apple’s Mac OS X“. Excellent read and conveys the point I was trying to make yesterday in my post, “Macicism“.

It’s definitely worth a read, but it is quite long and there are also some video’s that are worth watching as well, also quite long. If you get a chance though, I highly recommend it, especially if you are an avid Vista supporter.
