Electric Car and Fuel Thoughts

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Car BatteryI have noticed over the past month or so that there have begun to be some more obvious changes in transport in response to the increasing fuel costs.

Over the past year there has been an increase in Camry’s/Aurion’s as taxi’s and police vehicles in place of some of Falcon’s and Commodore’s, and over the past month or so, I have noticed smaller 4 door vehicles such as Toyota Corolla’s and a few of the more expensive Toyota Prius hybrid car’s.

I have also noticed that freight and logistics companies like the Toll Group have been using small vehicles for smaller runs, such as the Hyundai Getz. In addition, during my travels up and down the east Australia over the past couple of months, I have noticed that there are becoming less single trailer trucks around, and the length of both trailers on dual trailer’s has been extending to the point where they are both getting to around the same length.

This is understandable given the prices of fuel, so this brings me to my title, some thoughts and observations about electric cars.

MatthewBrown.net.au

Friday, March 7th, 2008

For one of my subjects for my Bachelor of Creative Industries, KKB210: Computational Arts 1, we are required to setup a blog to use to store our work in a website portfolio. We are allowed to use any system that sends an RSS feed and is able to receive them, similar to the way the RSS widget in WordPress works. WordPress is the recommended system and there is of course space provided on the servers at uni for it. These WordPress based blogs are accessible from off campus, but I figure, since it’s meant to be a portfolio, I may as well set it up somewhere else so that I can continue to use it elsewhere. The other benefit of this is that it doesn’t take up space on my drive at uni which I’m always getting notices about telling me that my drive is full etc.

We are allowed to set it up elsewhere, or even use an old blog if we have one, as long as our KKB210 work can be easily distinguished from everything else. I decided to buy a new domain and host it myself, why not. I’m setting it up on www.matthewbrown.net.au, no reason not to. There isn’t anything of note there yet, just an under development page. WordPress has been installed, but I haven’t finished the template yet, so it is staying invisible for now.

So there you go. This subject so far is proving to be very interesting. I’m liking it a lot.

Send Your Teddy On A Holiday!

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

Travelling TeddyDoes your teddy work hard? Does he or she deserve a holiday? To Stockholm in Sweden perhaps? Well, it would seem there are some people over there that are offering just that.

So if your teddy deserves a holiday, for 149 Euro’s these people over in Sweden are more than happy to take your teddy on a tour of Stockholm, see the sites, and return him or her to you with a photo diary of their holiday.

I have trouble taking this seriously, but I suppose there are a lot of teddy’s in the world in need of a holiday. I wouldn’t mind a holiday in Stockholm, so I guess a teddy wouldn’t either.

From their website:

Let your teddies join us for a real adventure journey to Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. They will get the opportunity to see the Royal Palace, pet all the animals at our zoo Skansen, and visit our own amusement park, Gröna Lund.

Shiva Eats

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

As some would know, Rhi has decided to name her spotted python Shiva. Shiva was a Hindu god that had snake guardians, just in case you were wondering.

Shiva fed today (the 19th) for the first time since Rhi bought him. He was fed on Monday last week at the pet store, and we were a bit worried he might still be a bit nervous and what not from the move, and thus be difficult to feed, however, he struck at the pinkie straight away and would have got it except Rhi didn’t have a chance to let go of it with the tongs before he moved back. Once she let go of it though, he was onto it first go and had it completely inside in only a couple of minutes.

Hopefully he will continue to feed this well.

Rhi’s Snake Baby

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Baby snake curled up on Rhi’s hand
Baby snake in his home
Rhi holding her baby snake
Rhi’s snake is watching me
Baby python watching Rhi
Me holding Rhi’s snake

Rhi finally got her pet snake today! Isn’t he cute?

He is a baby spotted python and is about 20cm long at the moment and is very quick. He doesn’t seem particularly fond of me either, at least, not at the moment. At least his bites don’t hurt since his teeth are still so small.

Look look look, I even have a photo to prove I was holding him, just for those that wouldn’t otherwise believe me.

He is much more aggressive and adventurous than Tim and Jude’s stimson python’s, but theirs are older and no doubt used to being handled a lot more than Rhi’s baby.

She hasn’t decided what to call him yet, it doesn’t help that she doesn’t know what sex it is. I refer to it as him because she gets male vibes from him apparently.

She is thinking about Shiva, Nagini, or Stilleto, depending on how he behaves and so on.

I never would have considered a snake as a pet, but it really is quite cool!
