I saw this video the other day in a news.com.au article, it’s great to see someone besides the Citizen’s Electoral Council pushing for high speed rail in Australia. With such long distances to cross and existing air and rail travel as expensive as it is, it only makes sense for us to have something like this. The thing I find most disappointing though is that according to the article, this design would only achieve 400km/h speeds when existing maglev technology in use in Shanghai has allowed trains there to reach 581km/h, so why start with something that’s already slower than the current top speed for high speed rail?
In saying that though, I love the fact that this train is inspired by the HK Monaro, and the design is fantastic! I also love that it’s been designed here in Australia, but still, the speeds are a bit disappointing. I’d love to see this go ahead either way!
